Visual Rhetorical Analysis of Comics

Here is a visual rhetorical analysis of  "The Amulet." I used one of McCloud's arguments to analyze the rhetoric in the graphic novel. It's in the form of a video on YouTube and make sure to go to the settings to click on "CC" for captions.

  1. I think the idea of amplification is very important to comics usually read by younger audiences. Rather than observing reading a story about two specific characters, children are able to expand their imaginations by more easily relating the plot to their own lives.
Reading a comic about famous super heroes feels more like watching a movie rather than living an adventure, and this comic does a good job of allowing readers to more fully engage and participate in the action.

  2. I think you did a very good job explaining amplification through simplification. I also agree in saying that amplification through simplification is used a lot in comics because it makes it easier for children to understand what is going on in a comic. It is also easy to make it relatable to your own life when comics are simplified like this. I feel that in some ways amplification through simplification makes it easier to read for everyone because they can imagine themselves as the character.
